Dear Friends of Children and Families,
We are again pleased to be able to provide the latest edition of the Parent
HandyBook, a resource guide to services that can help parents and
professionals in the Otsego County area deal with the challenges of family
life. Copies of this booklet are available in print at area libraries and
local agencies, on CD-ROMs by request at the above address, and online at
ParentHandybook2006.pdf.
The Otsego Committee on Child Abuse and Neglect (OCCAN) hopes that knowing
where to turn for help will make a difference in dealing with the ordinary
--- and extraordinary --- stresses of family life. OCCAN, since its origins
in 1978, has focused on child abuse/neglect prevention through public
awareness and professional development. This is OCCAN’s 21st
year of presenting local conferences. This edition of the HandyBook is our
5th since 1992. OCCAN is a local organizational affiliate of
Prevent Child Abuse – New York (www.preventchildabuseny.org.)
We are again grateful to Bassett Healthcare and Fox Hospital for
underwriting the cost of printing, and to Bassett's Printing Services for
production. We thank Betsy Hayes for diligent and creative work in typing,
formatting and editing; her work was underwritten by Penn Traffic
Corporation and their Cooperstown store’s "Caring for Children Campaign".
We thank Brian Pokorny for technical assistance and support of this
project.
While we have listed many services and organizations, you
must make your own judgment about whether the service will work for you and
your family. We know that there may be resources we haven't listed, but
which may be useful to include in future editions. Please let us know your
suggestions: OCCAN, PO Box 1332, Oneonta, NY 13820.
Cordially,
The members of Otsego Committee on Child Abuse and Neglect (OCCAN):
Amber Aeschbacher – LEAF
